LUX is a national public arts agency which exists to support and promote artists’ moving image work through distribution, exhibition, publishing and research. Founded in 2002 as an educational charity and not-for-profit limited company, it builds on a lineage of predecessor organisations (The London Filmmakers Co-operative, London Video Arts and The Lux Centre) which stretches back to the 1960s. LUX is the only organisation of its kind in the UK, it represents the country’s only significant collection of artists’ film and video and is one of the largest distributors of such work in Europe (representing 4500 works by approximately 1500 artists from 1920s to the present day).
LUX’s income raised through its distribution, sales and publishing activity goes towards supporting its artistic programme of events, screenings and exhibitions, the restoration and digitisation of artists’ films and videos works for the future, providing professional development support for artists and the providing access and resources for the exploration of the art form. Your support could assist LUX to continue and expand its work and preserve a legacy and future of artists’ film and video in the UK.
Particular areas for which LUX is seeking support at the moment include:
- Restoration Programme. Restoring and preserving works for the future and making them publicly available on their original mediums as intended by the artist.
- Digitisation Programme. Digitisation of the LUX collection to make it publicly available in an online form for reference and study.
- www.luxonline.org.uk . LUX’s online resource for the exploration and study of British artists film and video in context.
